چکیده

* Corresponding author. Abstract – Analysis of the results of detecting fires in the Tomsk region of Western Siberia from space allows us to note the following. Complex situations often arise in satellite observations under conditions of aerosol or semitransparent cloudiness when standard algorithms do not allow one to detect automatically small-sized fires from space. In such situations, the problem can be solved successfully by using atmospheric correction of satellite measurements for the distorting effect of the atmosphere based on atmospheric radiance/scattering models. In this case, a priori information on optical and meteorological parameters of the atmosphere and on the geometry of observations is used. In the present study, some results of numerical simulation and atmospheric correction for the distorting effect of the atmosphere in the problem of fire detection are given.

Remote Sensing of Tidal Situation by Monitoring Changes in Suspended Sediment Concentration in Surface Waters

Collecting information on suspended sediments concentration (SSC) in coastal waters and estuaries is vital for proper management of coastal environments. Traditionally, SSC used to be measured by time consuming and costly point measurements. This method allows the accurate measurement of SSC only for a point in space and time. Remote sensing from air-borne and space-borne sensors have proved to...

Wildfire Smoke Analysis Using the 760 Nm Oxygen Absorption Feature

In October 2003 the Santa Susanna Mountains, located to the northwest of Los Angeles, CA, sustained severe wild fires. The Airborne Visible and Infrared Imaging Spectrometer (AVIRIS) acquired four meter spatial resolution data over the burning area to assess the impact of the fires on the wildland to urban interface. Additional goals of the flights were testing the capabilities of airborne hype...

Daytime Fire Detection Using Airborne Hyperspectral Data

The shortwave infrared region of the electromagnetic spectrum, covering wavelengths from 1400 to 2500 nm, can include significant emitted radiance from fire. There have been relatively few evaluations of the utility of shortwave infrared remote sensing data, and in particular hyperspectral remote sensing data, for fire detection. We used an Airborne Visible InfraRed Imaging Spectrometer (AVIRIS...

Prediction of fireball consequences caused by Boilover occurrence in the atmospheric storage tanks

Background and Objectives: Although Boilover occurs with a low frequency, but in case of occurrence, it can cause severe damage to people and equipment around the tank. The prediction of the fireball of Boilover phenomenon has an important role to play in adopting appropriate strategies for fire suppression of the atmospheric storage tank. The purpose of this study is to predict the consequence...
